Definition of Bituah Leumi
Visit ביטוח לאומי is Israel's equivalent of social security. It works to reduce economic disparities in Israel. Its main objective is to provide basic means of subsistence for all categories of the population. This institution provides services and information on a variety of subjects, such as :
- pregnancy and birth,
- various disabilities,
- accidents and illnesses,

- the unemployment in Israel.
The Bituah Leumi is responsible for collecting national insurance contributions to finance the various benefits paid out in accordance with the National Insurance Law (חוק ביטוח לאומי).
It is also responsible for collecting health insurance fees (ביטוח בריאות) to finance Israel's healthcare system.

Social security and health insurance contributions are deducted at source for employees directly by their employers.
Self-employed and non-working people, on the other hand, must pay their own contributions to Bituah Leumi.
