Giving money in Israel pays off!

The holiday season is approaching and you'd like to make a donation to Israel?

In 2015, we counted over 35,000 registered associations in Israel. Each association is different, and works to achieve its own objectives, such as:
  • Financial assistance for those in need.
  • Collecting food and clothing for the needy.
  • Building a synagogue.
  • The creation of a French-speaking school.
  • etc...
The phenomenal number of associations existing in Israel is due to the fact that the process of setting up an association in Israel is very simple, and associations can benefit from total tax exemption on their activity. What's more, and this is the good news for donors, an association can also be granted the "séif 46" (paragraph 46 of the tax code) entitling its donors to a tax credit of 35% on donations made. How do I get 35% back from my donations in Israel ?

Being generous in Israel can save you money on your taxes (the equivalent of CERFA 11580 in France). For example, if you are in the habit of donating money to associations (Synagogues, donations for the poor, etc.), you can reclaim 35% from the sums paid, provided of course that you had a tax liability during the period concerned. To do this, you'll need to submit a "Demande de récupération d'Impôts", or in other words a "בקשה להחזר מס".

Recover your money up to 7 years in the past

The application to reclaim 35% of your donations (Bakachat Ehzer Mas - Tax Reclaim Application) can be filed retroactively for 7 years! Now you understand why, for example, it's important to keep the receipts given to you by the Shamash (the person in charge of the synagogue) on Friday evening.

What are the conditions for getting your money back?

To qualify for a tax refund for a given period, you must meet these 3 conditions:
  1. Have paid taxes during this period.
  2. The minimum total donation is 190 Shekels.
  3. The association to which you made your donations in Israel must benefit from Article 46.

How do I know if my association benefits from Article 46?

The Israeli Tax Office has recently made it possible to find information on existing associations in Israel. Click on the following linkand noting the association's number and name. You'll then be able to find out whether this association will allow you to benefit from a 35% tax reduction on the amount of your donations to Israel. Are you in the habit of making annual donations? Consult us if you'd like us to help you retroactively reclaim your donations over a 7-year period. Do you manage an association, or are you a member of the Vaad (Association Management Committee)?
